ONe of my coworkers has a 90's saleen mustang you know the ugly boxy ones. He never changed the oil and it busted, he thought he should buy another engine, but thought he'd have to special order it, but I told him that the 5.0 was even found in cargo vans. Disilusioned he's now looking for another car. He found a 01 stang for 7,500 but he quickly dismissed it cuz it was a V6. I looked at him angrily.... angryly? and said "you know there's parts for the 3.8" The just looked disapointed "Gas is about to hit more than 3.50 a gallon here so..." He looked around at a bit and said
"Is there a turbo" "Nope, but there's a super" "Can you calibrate it like we were on the saleen" "I have the formulas, but we'll see."
Well my ultimate point is that should he get the 3.8 or the 4.6? or should we go to the junkyard and pull an 5.0 out of an E350 conversion Van?
After my accident I resolved myself to look and cram as much information in my brain as I could about cars, though the really hard stuff I have to look up. A lot of special orders at the Barnes and noble and a lot of garage sales on the trunks of Buicks.... READ KIDS IT HELPS!!!

Did you really delete my previous reply to this thread? WTF.
I say again. If you want a serious Mustang the 351 is a great starting point.

why which one is better? that V6 or 351? in terms of overall performance internal and external parts.

for the money it would take to make the 3.8 v6 perform on a level equal to any 4.6 5.0 or 5.8 v8 you could build any of the v8 engines to well over 600 HP and the engine would be less stressed. V8 power works, and contrary to what seems to be popular belief, cubic inches and properly matched intake/ exhaust and valvetrain systems WILL ALWAYS MAKE GOOD POWER. I haven't been into mustang scene for awhile so I'm not going to try to quote a bunch of specs, but I can tell you that a well built v8 Mustang is one of the cheapest and fastest weekend warrior cars on the planet, its ffing indisputable.

Oh yeah I forgot... Well he joined the Army reserves I think in august he's gonna go to basic training you know "one weekend a month" thing. Well they gave him 5 grand on the spot. I told him what you guys said and pulled out a 5.8 for about 3,500 (wow! great price) on the internet and then I found a fully electronic fuel injection kit with idividual throttle bodies, or as my co-worker calls it "Ferrari Style!..." I also lent him the new issue of SCC where the dear dave article explains how you could exort more hp out of your 350, 302, 351, or 305 small block (ford or chevy respectively) so he's doing some homework cuz I hate him having to ask me a butload of questions...
also on that article it seems kinda odd that people still ask about that subject 4cyl vs 8cyls.... I guess since the muscle guys seem to pick on the little pocket rockets they try to counter act by bringing up these lame arguments. (the problem that both sides are to blame) VTAK! and power per litter and yes, even FWD is better than RWD; not lying I've heard it.... @esthetics is correct if you calibrate the engine correctly you get a monster of biblical proportions. I own a Fit and am a Z fan, but I know that If I go to a SCCA time attack and I see Audis, Vettes, and a V12 BMW I know I don't got much of a chance....
Though turbos are somewhat of an equalizer you could just turbocharge the V8 as well and then were back to where we started. the main reasons you buy a car are price; price of parts compared to another car stock; fuel consumption; and if you're hard core at least .90 lateral G's
for me I just want to have fun in my car don't worry that the other guy has 50 to 100hp more that me I just want a smile of panic and ecstacy on my face as I cone dodge on my little Honda Fit (Which aslo has VTAK!).

I think it'd be cool to build up a twin tirbo V6 Mustang, just to be a lil different from every other guy who has a tuned V8. My friend has an old SVO Mustang with the turbo 2.3l 4cyl, he's tweaked it to be putting out around 300hp, but he knows what he's doing!!
