i would of said there is no way they could compete until i visited the bmw website. im surprised that the 135i is a twin turbocharged v6 (making 300 hp) and the m3 is making 414hp or something. and with a good ecu upgrade i think a 135i could keep up with an m3 (for only 2,000$$ you can boost that to +85hp with dinan, or +40hp with turner motorsports for 600$).
of course the 135i has to be lighter then the m3, but bmw doesnt say how much lighter. and the m3 has better performance stuff. so maybe some weight reduction and some better suspension could help too.
and also, what do you mean "135i vs m3 E92" ? acceration, handleing, top speed, which one to buy, what do you mean by vs?

I love my current M3 and the E46 M3 will always be the best” and “The E92 M simply does NOT look “M” enough…”. ------------------- oliviaharis Used Cars

well i dunno about you guys, but if im gonna be spending 40-60 grand on a car, im gonna want some comfort and practicallity for my money. id either get an m3, or get a 335i and get the same dinan upgrades. plus, the 1 series looks a little feminine for my tastes.

if I had $50k to spend on a BMW, I'd build up a kickass E36 M3 that'd run circles around those cars. Either that, or I'd just wait for that new compact RWD Toyota to come out, and go to town with the TRD goodies

The 135i is an inline six cylinder, not a V6. Nearly all of BMW's cars are of the same engine layout. If you were really that interested, you'd know this.
You have the whole Internet at your disposal. Use it.
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?
