Should SCC do a Project Camaro?

If they get the V6 it could be considered a Sport Compact just look at 350Z's (imagine if they'd put a V8 in there?...not a Sport Compact). It could be cheap around 20-25K? RWD and it would shut up all those whiners who want a GM project car...

And for the editors:

IT COULD BRING IN ALLOT OF READERS!!!!!

you make a good point about silencing the GM crowd and their weird cavalier love, but there is simply too much stigma against the pony type car for it to be an SCC project. On the other hand, the v6 is going to be one hell of a v6 (definitely on par with current Nissan VQs, around 300HP).

I just read a motor trend article wherein one of the chief final camaro evaluators blatantly stated that months ago they had stopped testing against the mustang GT because it couldn't keep up anywhere in the tests and wasnt relevant anymore. There were also whispery rumors about a turbo 4 ecotec version.

I'd be a cool project to follow and a bit off from what would be expected on a magazine like this. The pony car stigma will die out soon. It grows upon ignorance and what better way to disprove it than by setting the right example. It would break that "Oh you got the V6 instead of the V8?!" crap. I also seen the press release video where one of the designers said that the possibility of a turbo 4 engine was also considered at the table.

One thing that would also set it to par is this:

Z's are big, heavy and bulky (but handle excellent) the only thing separating them from an Audi type classification would be the V6. How many of us would consider the Z a sport compact instead of a medium size coupe if it was a V8 ?

Also (even though they're in different leagues) we consider the GTR as a sport compact even though its a 4 seat, comfortable, quiet, well equipped car!

yeah, but even if the Z came with a stock v8 it would still get crazy coverage from all these magazines, and thats what kind of pisses me off about how they draw the border between domestic cars and imports. My first car that I wanted to keep was a 79 Mustang that ran about 12.5 in the quarter, and the thing weighed about 2,800 lbs with me in it. I would call it sport and compact but I get hate from every direction for loving the car. Funny because it was 1,000 pounds lighter than new cars like the Z but the stock handling sucked so its completely discounted. Whatever, Im done arguing against import lovers cause they are mostly fascist mofos. I could get a civic that runs 17s in the quarter with a loud ass rice exhaust and be accepted by them.

There are those who run on car cliches or niches and there are those who just want to enjoy the car we own... No one should discount anothers car. If someone came with a question about an old school Monte or Trans-Am I'm sure some of us would help him/her....

For a RWD GM project car, I think SCC would pick a pontiac solstice over a V6 camaro ANY day!! The V6 camaro is still a heavy pig. Plus, when anybody hears the name "Camaro", they automatically think "muscle car". I'm sure you can find one of the million muscle car mags doing a project Camaro. If you wanna see a V6 Camaro in the pages of SCC, why don't you build one yourself and try to get it featured in the mag!
one of my friends has a tricked out 86 Mustang SVO with the turbo 2.3 I-4, but I doubt you'd ever see it featured in here.

the key to going faster, is being a better driver!

I like the styling of the sky over the solstice, but that's a trivial argument...

Hey that works too, but its always good to look for other alternatives nowadays. Variety is always good. I just proposed the V6 Camaro, because it is a good platform and if you look at it apples to apples: If its priced right and can take a decent turn then it could be a good sport compact. Who cares about the name. What if it said: Vauxhall VXR8?

There's a lot of misgivings about domestic products and I should know... I write a couple of bad arguments about domestics here and there from time to time...   But if the product can deliver then I don't care what brand it is...
