Did the magazine drop the Dear Dave section? Being an old school reader that was what i looked forward to the most each month. Dont get me wrong i like most of the new changes that have gone on, but it was nice to read Dave's style of tech advise and humor every month.

I miss Coleman's section too. His wit was unique, and tech always informative. I also miss the stories of rallying, Eyesore Racing, and events like the Targa Newfoundland. There are no other magazines with actual stories like SCC, it's not just a showcase of overdone show cars. This, and the exhaustive testing,is what has endeared SCC to me for so many years. Change is inevitable and to resist it, folly. But it doesn't mean we have to like it.

Josh Jaquot was editor in chief before dave I think, and he also actually talked about real driving events. They both had an ability to translate personal experience in a way that made you think it was insightful, and always fun to read. Dave Coleman has had a few smart ass replies to me personally through letters published in the mag and here on the site. I harbor some resentment to the guy for being so pompous and arrogant in his superiority, but theres no doubt he knew his business and SCC definitely loses something substantial with out his presence.
didnt mean for that to be so serious, but he was a big part of SCC

I remember the first SCC I got and it got this middle aged man cross-dressing as a grandma and taking rides on clearly distraught looking men talking about pepto-bismol and gin LOL!... And an issue where there are two fat men with horrible wigs and dresses pretending to be carshow models at what I think was the detroit auto show and standing in front of cars....
Now its just another boring "generic, you got to be a badass" magazine where the budget is overpriced the cars are redone a million times... (how many project evos have been done?) And the editors are more interested in proving their egos correctly than actually just enjoying driving a car. I'm not going to renew my subscription this time... Once I saw the project WRX do 20hp per bolt on and K&N smacked right on every shot and article instead of subtlety placed like older issues with their project placement I knew it was dead for me...
I loved Technobabble I loved burnout of the month! I hate Just driven I loved the Hate/Love letter of the month I enjoyed watching dorky nerds pulling out their pocket calculators and plug in numbers on average cars like 200sx's Focus' and neon's and Datsuns (specially the datsuns)

Yeah, whatever happened to him. He was always the first section I read whenever the new issue came in the mail. He was usually also the section I re-read the most as time went on. He had such a great way of conveying technical advice and knowlege into no B.S. for us readers. BRING DAVE BACK s.c.c.!!

Kind of looks that way after second issue in a row.
Bummer. I've been reading SCC for over half of its 20 years, Dave's column was great.

I just got hooked when I finally saw car people take themselves lightly instead of "rolled up" sleeved A-holes like the other mags.

The magazine has been getting worse and it's pretty sad now. Building an entire issue on people's work who are no longer there, and then dissing Dave's Project Sentra SE-R as "it got beat" - it did not "get beat" by either of the B15's, not the S-Tune or the R-Tune.

I should know, I bought the car S-Tune? Please. R-Tune? Worthy of respect but c'mon for how many *** That thing cost as much as my G Coupe.

He bought it...It was for sale and I think it was 9 grand the winning bid.
Congratulations you have a piece of history years in the making ![]()
But yeah it has been going downhill for a while now... I thought that it would've taken off when "The Truth" Issue came out, but instead it just started to get a little more... I can't say what it is? Its like when you don't want to go out with your chick any more...
I guess its called "Umph." (or something) or lacking of...
