people drive what they can afford
who cares if they dont have the Type R Spec V GT-R version of their car? Just so long as the individual loves their car enough to wanna make it better.
"Hot Rodding" started off by people who had gutless piece of crap cars and they modified them in order to make a better performer.
I drive a Ford Tempo. There is barely any aftermarket support for that car, aside from maybe getting new tires. I have seen a guy online who put the Yamaha V6 and drivetrain from an early Taurus SHO into his tempo, and it pulls 14second quarter mile times.
All it takes is some ingenuity and creative thinking to be unique.
The way of the custom fabricator is slowly disapearing with the availability of almost anything you can think of, being at your keypad.

I applaud you for your comment and agree completely, but you must understand something... People like that will always exist. Those who want more and more and never know what or when its enough. I know... I used to be like that . For about two make that three years I used to drive an 82 Mercedes 5 cylinder turbo diesel car (awesome, indestructible [almost] car). Then I got a job as a construction worker and was told that I was supposed to get a truck in six months or I'd be fired.... I bought a 350Z and got fired   And slowly I began to show symptoms... I worried constantly about it, wondered if there was somebody faster than me or if I could beat him/her, and thought how could I make my car badass. I looked down on people with other cars and showed incredulous amounts of crassness to people with pimped out sport compacts. I only worried about being faster. I even street raced a Porsche on an empty stretch of highway (US 54)  which I'll never forgive myself for. Then a few months later I crashed the fuk out of it...
I then realized that all I did in the past was for nothing and all my obsessions were meaningless. When it got time to buy a new car; I was presented with used Vettes, G35's, M3's all around 575-600 a month payments and all affordable to me... And I got a Fit that was across the lot. Why? Because I didn't care about that any more I missed bringing my friends with me on trips, I missed just having fun in a car that if I wrecked it, it would be easier and cheaper to fix... I even did one of them pro-solo things on it! And had a blast when my friend Adrian was rolling on the back seat screaming (WAIT!...WAIT!...) trying to take video without his seatbelt.

In short... Forget those people. I can see your enthusiasm, but let it go... Do your own thing. In the end they will end up upside down on a ditch because they're ego will sound out their reason... Oh and quarter mile is boring.....

Ego, Pride, Obsession are things that are never needed in this field, but are often intertwined......

I agree
the 1/4mile is boring
I love watching slalom/gymkhanna events
I'm just gonna drive this tempo until I need something better, (it's a Ford. It's bound to break down soon enough). I'd like to get that new RWD Toyota compact when it comes out, for a more reliable source of transportation on weekdays, and fun on weekends.
