Honda has a new FR NSX coming soon, and right now they have the S2000.

Along with Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi... especially Mitsubishi. Sorry to have no help to your Thread but really someone in the industry needs to step up and deliver us some type of affordable, rwd coupe. Reason i mention Mitsubishi is because this is a way for them to truly resurrect the Eclipse in respect of its impact on the industry of affordable performance. And hell, why not have performance/luxurious version also with all-wheel drive. Can you say sales out of the roof?
How many people would honestly consider buying a rwd coupe, that is under $20,000, has potential mechanically and good technology in the suspension?
I would have to say yes.... that goes Scion, Nissan, Honda, and maybe even a Tibby... but that might be pushing it haha.
Really, i just think which ever company sucks up its fwd pride and takes a gamble they will succeed.

I personally don't see Honda doing any affordable RWD car in the future. They have been hinting at their new interpretation of the CRX, but I really dont see them getting that right. Honda has been making serious money for decades with its proven formula.....basically FWD people hauling appliances. There have been some anomalies in there including the S2K, but Honda has primarily stuck to its bread and butter (FWD commuter cars).
Its too bad I cant gloat to any of you guys, but I actually called this a couple years ago. The Hyundai tiburon has always had the proportions of a RWD coupe, cleverly and disgracefully disguised in a FWD platform. If I was a betting man, I would say THERE WILL BE a very affordable RWD Hyundai coupe within the next couple years. I believe it will still be called the Tiburon and although I have never driven a Hyundai I know they are growing quickly. They have already committed to a commonly shared RWD platform and I SERIOUSLY doubt they are going to do this half asssed. So theres your new AFFORDABLE RWD coupe.  HONDA DOESNT HAVE THE BALLS.

get a used S2000 for 20k but that is still too much...

I'm 5'6" and I could't fit in one of them with the top up. and I had to reach backwards for the shifter....not for regular non yoga people.

Unless you want to buy a used car, the RWD tuner scene is basically dead in terms of new RWD cars coming out. Hyundai is hinting at coming out with a RWD car, and you should give them respect, because they are growing really fast, and they may actually revive the RWD scene. If all goes well, many other tuning companies will follow (I personally hope Nissan delivers a 4-seat coupe with RWD and a 4-cylinder engine, whether it's turbocharged or NA, I don't personally mind much). I want a car that's just like the 240SX, but without the virtually weak bottom end of the old truck engine.

The Hyundai Genesis coupe...

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0805_2009_hyundai_genesis_coupe_first_look/

"That goes for the turbocharged, inline-four-cylinder base engine as well. Yes, you read that right-at the 2008 New York auto show, Hyundai announced the entry-level Genesis coupe will be a tuner's dream come true."

It might turn out to be something decent.. It will be too heavy though... And also fairly ugly if I may say so...But hopefully it will jump-start the return of the FUN RWD cars, and Toyota or Mazda will get back in the RWD game again and get serious about reviving it..

after having read a Motor Trend article regarding the upcoming Hyundai Genesis, I have to say I'm a little disappointed. This car is clearly into heavyweight territory, and yet the base 4b11 only puts out (according to MT) 212 HP and 217 lb. ft. of torque at the crank. Thats just disgraceful and a very bad move on Hyundais part. This is the premier engine with the most tuning potential and they have castrated it from the factory so it doesn't venture into v6 territory. Just stupid. Hyundai should offer a strong 4 turbo and the rest is inconsequential. Hyundai should make it cheap, strong and light out of the box. It shouldn't be that difficult, and its time that mainstream automakers realize Lotus is onto something with the "less is more" philosophy.
Hyundai, just put the balls back into the 4b11 and cut some pounds if you can. Please.

This is just depressing (and also a disgrace). They bloody de-tuned the 4B11!? And it's heavy as hell? Dammit, Hyundai, you were actually doing pretty well on this "getting bigger and bigger" phase that every company goes through when they first start out, why do you have to do this now? This might lower the chances of other companies jumping the gun back into the RWD platform. If a lot of people don't buy this car, then we may be doomed forever. Tsk, tsk, tsk...

I know that the 4B11 was designed with Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Daimler Chrysler but I've yet to hear a specific engine assigned to the Genesis.

The genesis actually isn't going to be what we all thought it would be...its going to offer a 6 and 8 cyl. engines and its going to be big and heavy and will also offer a four door (anyone else sick of auto makers trying to follow in the footsteps of BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus). Look at Consumer Report for the new 2008-2009 cars...truly disapointing. So who is next to step up and offer an affordable RWD couple? oh and practical...

If what you're saying is correct then the 4B11 won't be in the Hydunai Genesis since that's a 4 cyl. But where did you hear that it'll have either a 6 or 8? Most of the articles I've seen on it says that the Genesis is going to offer a turbo inline four or a v6. I just haven't see the 4B11 mentioned in anything related to the Hyndai Genesis, even after spending all day with google.

I had the issue of Consumer Reports on all the new 2008/some 09 cars. I mean I'm not one hundred percent sure but i just thought the 4B11 was just speculations anyways. If the report is right which it probably is...its just another cheap Bimmer wanna be.
