Have been searching around for more info on the ease of this engine swap. Found the Festiva/Mazda 323 swap here. I found a 91 Protege parts donor that I can take whatever I need off of it, but don't know exactly what I'll need. It's my son's first car and it sounds do able and FUN! I would appreciate any info we can get from people who have done this or similar swaps. I understand the 1.8dohc will bolt up to the transission, I think both are ODB1 electronics. Is this something that could be done in his high school auto shop class? Or do I talk him into keeping the perfectly good 1.3L and just pretend he has a sports car. Thanks ahead of time for any help you can give. MI Dad

Look in the tech section of this site; it should be part of the "Hybrid How-To" series.

1.8L swap is OUT! Looks like we will help the 1.3 breathe a little better for now and keep an eye out for a 1.6L. Much easier swap for about 25 HP and no extra weight. Great site by the way!
