First of all, I think doing a J-Body project car is a terrible idea. One, they look awful and no matter what you do, they cannot look good, I'm sorry but the truth hurts. Second of all, their is no power in the engine. Third, all you J-Body fanatics say their are serious J-Body tuners but one out of fifty J-Body modifiers just put a fart can on thier car with a cheap intake and then they think they have a fast car. Now a car that goes unnoticed way too often, is the Honda Prelude. This would make a great project car. It has a good engine to start with and and engine swap isn't necessary unlike all J-Body cars. Second of all, you dont see nearly as many Prelude's as you would a Cavalier, Civic, Integra, Miata and a bunch of other cars. Lastly, I will quote Car and Dricver Magazine, "The Honda Prelude was the best Acura Integra ever made." Enough said.

you just described 95 percent of all "tuners", honda, mazda, dodge, toyota. they all do it. so using that as a reason is stupid. if it was based on looks, the sentra would be out, crx, civic, srt4, yes the j-body. looks don't matter when it comes to performance. the truth is using a j-body is a better idea than a prelude because everything that can be done to a civic or integra has been done, because, .............wait for it,............................THE DRIVE TRAINS ARE INTERCHANGABLE. so using a prelude would be redundant. While i do believe that the Prelude is a great looking car, modding it would not do anything. It would be another honda that got modded, go read honda tuning if you want to see that. the j-body, while not a fast platform, has a lot of potential and there is a big market for it. Because we all know that if it wasn't for after market, honda's, preludes and integra's included, would still be the same slow crap cars that came from the factory.

okay, is it wasnt for aftermarket, then J-bodies would still be half as slow as a prelude and integra and would still be the most popular car for a 16 year old girl. also, a little more respect needs to shown to the hondas. this magainze did admit in the issue that had the timeline of sport compact cars, that the honda civic was the starter of all this modifying. so if it wasnt for honda, the J-body would be nothing. For every one Prelude, you see 15 J-body cars. also almost every person who does modify j-bodies act like their car has a viper engine in it and run their mouth about how good their car is. then when they are called out on it, they soon realize that they are driving a j-body and shut their mouth. If your telling me to read a Honda Tuning magazine to see preludes, then all these J-body fans sould start reading Chevy and Pontiac magazines. believe it or not, those magazines do cover those cars. they just arent displayed as much because it is a car that mainly 16 year old girls drive for their first car. Now, i dont want to seem like i hate those who modify J-bodies. Those who do it right and dont run their mouth about their car, i dont have a problem with it. But like i said above, almost all j-body "tuners" think they are way better than every car in the road. and i know that looks have nothing to do with performance but every other project car this magazine has done looks as good as it is fast. their is a reason why the Cavalier or the Sunfire doesnt make the cover of magazines and its not the performance. Modified Mag did and article on a modified Honda Odyssey and the mini van was on the cover. i thought that was ridiculous and even though i would much rather see a J-body on a tuner magazine, i still think that it would be a bad idea. A j-body on the cover of a magzine isnt something that would be catchy to the eye sort of like a mini van. Lastly, you say their is a big market for the j-body but that is a stupid reason for usuing it as a project car. there is a huge market for any car anywhere. there is a huge market for Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's but you never see it on the cover of Muscle Car News and the performance has nothing to do with it.

SCC wanted to do a new project car, and one that wasn't already done in the past. Why do a Honda build? Like said above, it is old news. The J-Body has a large and loyal following that has been asking for years for SCC to do some kind of build up. The car has loads of potential. Check out the other discussions on it in the forum. I have raced against many Honda guys with Civic Si's, Preludes, Integra Type R's with my J-Body. Stock for stock, I win off the line and usually to 60mph. People would pull me over to see if I had nitrous, lol. I am not bragging but with a little tuning the J-Body is a match for any Honda. Don't hate, educate your self.

Lets get this straight, in my opinion the J-body SUCKS. It's ugly, slow and a total chicks car, but so is the civic, neon, focus, you get the point. They are made for one purpose, driving to work and getting groceries. What makes all of these cars great is the fact that the CAN be tuned. But for the most part most people are getting sick of seeing Honda's, WRX's, and EVO's, for the same reason i cant stand going to a car show and looking at '32 Ford Hot Rods, 68 Chevelles, and Mustangs. The have all been over done. Sure, the quality is good but, BORING. I am actually looking forward to seeing a different car in the magazine.

this is for jpo96...you say that you win off the line usually to 60 mph. ok great but that point is that the honda beat you, winning is winning. i have raced many cavaliers and sunfires at the track in my prelude and its a joke. i start out in front and i finish in front with much room to spare even though it doesnt matter how much i beat them by, i still beat them. And you say with a little tuning a J-body is a match for any honda. Well educate yourself now, do the same modifications to the honda that you do a J-body and what is the result? The honda wins. maybe you should educate youself... Like i said earlier, im not trying to start an arguement but if you want to see someting different done, why not go with something like a Ion Redline. 1. looks better than any Cavalier ive ever seen. 2. it comes with a supercharged engine, it has so much more potential than a cavalier. 3. No one has ever done a Saturn Ion Redline for a project car. I wouldnt mind to see that in the magazine.

I have a question. Has anyone ever said "You know what, I want to buy a Cavalier today?" If you have, you REALLY need to get yourself into a real car for a change.

My last girlfriend had a 2002 Cavalier coupe and she LOVED IT! So did my sister. But they also like my dad's Altima SE-R, my mom's 95 Mercedes E420, my uncle's Bonneville GXP, and my Buick Century. What I'm tryin to say is that girls respect coolness, too. Girl cars can be awesome too; just look at the Miata.
Who says that Buick Centuries aren't awesome?

SCC should make a mk III vw jetta because you can get them for cheap, common, and there are parts readily available for it. Another reason is that like others have said Hondas, EVOs, and WRXs have been done so many times whereas the Jetta has never really been done

boy o' boy look at this. We are actually talking about cavaliers... I have many friends and neighbours who have cavaliers. they all say the same thing. It's all about this... Its all about that... I slaved myself for six months in a crummy construction job to get my Z. I didn't go "lets go to the used car dealership and get a Z24!" I went directly where I wanted to go to get a badass car.
The problem is that they got whatever they could afford and then the inferiority complex insued by the other posers and then pride and ego kicked in. My cavalier is good enough... and then false hope kicked in......here comes the aftermarket parts and it all went to hellinabucket. My neighbour has a yellow Z24 with silver rally stripes and cheap rims. He always revs his engine and does peel-outs right in front of me when he catches me entering or leaving my car. Do i do something about it. NO, in the freeway I'm doing 80 and then there's a white cavalier getting in front of me slowing down and speeding up, do I do something about it? *** NO they're bloody cavaliers, I don't do street racing, and if I did I would not show off to my friends "Yo yo yo! I jus beat a CAVALIER!!!!" but lets put my own twist on the tale "Dude yo that thing was SLOW and and I had to downshift so much to catch up to it (hint hint) and then and then.....Blauh." I agree with Blach lude do an ION Redline or *** a Cava... EH! Almost.... Cobalt SS or even the regular cuz them Cavalier idots like a shitty engine.
IF they want to do something different too why not a Tibby? its better to talk about tibby's than Cavaliers? isn't it?

master shake i couldnt agree with you more. and Shelby fan, thats not even a cavalier. its the frame of a cavalier and a similiar body. ill go find a ford escort race car that i saw at the world ford challenge and tell you to mess with it. if your going to tell me to mess with a cavalier, at least show me one that has the cavalier engine and the original body, not a race car.
