Back in '94 I finally got to purchase the much drooled over 2g Eclipse GSX in shiny black. Sure it had 60 grand on the odometer, but it was cherry! I was in heaven and quickly went to researching and saving money for parts for my beautiful 4G63. Thing is, all my info came from forums. Forums like dsmtalk.com and dsmtuners.com. I pored over every issue of every magazine ever since looking for an article on my car.  Where was my car? I maybe came across 5, buying each issue without hesitation. If my car was so great like I've been learning, where was it? I started to believe I was too late. The 2g DSM was past its glory days. Now it's all about the Evo. Please make me wrong and put some limelight back on the beautiful, capable, and very unique DSM.

I think that this tuner mag should do a project eclipse with the very capible 4G63 engine. It doesn't really matter what year of eclipse they used as long as it was between the years of 1990-1999. If more people responed to the forums regarding the eclipse and the 4G63 engine I think that magazine would finally give in and do a project eclipse. What would even be better is if they did a huge feature on the eclipse. Get the word out more and show everybody how great the eclipse really is.

Yeah, besides the *** 4g63, the Eclipse is a unique wonder. It almost has its own class. From the start it was designed as an entry level SPORTSCAR. It kind of snuggled itself below the ponycars. It was never intended to be an everyperson car with 4-door practicality and luggage space. Most other cars were derived from 4-door family cars. Cars like the civic, sentra, evo, wrx, and even the integra. The Eclipse's closest classmates are probably the toyota mr and the little miata. The Eclipse isn't a true sportscar, but it's a great compromise between sportscar and practical coupe. And let's not forget the styling. You have to admire the swift-looking wedge shape of the first gen. Then came the second gens that set an automotive exterior statment that I could look at for hours. Especially at that price level. Both cars looked like no other cars around in their time. I could go on, but I hope you get my point.

Great, so the SCC staff picked up a project J-body...

I've had a subscription to SCC for over 4 years and it pains me to say DSMs have been largely ignored by your mag.  Its a real shame too... because these cars are a blast!  You guys had an EVO, you know how well the 4g63 takes to modding.  Imagine EVO level performance (in a straight line at least) for a fraction of the cost of an EVO.  Well folks, you've just imagined a DSM.  You guys should really add one to your project car line-up.  Its never too late.  And trust me, you won't regret it.

i think the dsm is a great platform and can be modded to look very clean too.  4g63 is a great motor, i wunna see more dsm too.  but hey at least if you do have a dsm, it isnt played out like hondas and 240's.  keep it clean and show em up!

Personally i think every mag ignores the DSM family for some reason its beyond me i think its one of the meanest and most affordable street cars out there not to mention with little money it can be a whole lot faster i would love to see a DSM project car ive been working on mine for nearly 2 years

DSM's are always a terror to the Honda guys and even the American muscle at my local drag strip (Irwindale).

DSM's can also be made to handle fairly nicely for the road course. For the price, you can't beat the performance and the potential, period..It's also beyond me too why no magazine explores the DSM.

Also, most DSM guys are very chill (mostly the 1g, and the true 2g guys) There are way too many ricey-asz N/A 2gs out there that bring down the image of the eclipse..

I had a 1g DSM, a 1990 Talon Tsi back a few years.. IT was a great car.

Being a DSM owner myself my opinion will quickly be shoved to the side. The cars are monsters. This magazine desperately needs to have a DSM project car. Even better...

Like the battle i just read about with the NSX and the Civic ***

95-99 Mitsubishi GS-T (AWD isn't fair) vs. Acura Integra GSR (turbo possibilities) on fixed budgets with judging on all-around performance, "street"-ability, and appeal.

plus everyone likes a rivalry and let me tell ya from the "boards" DSM and Honda guys have a little tension.

SCC i might have to forward this to you because you might sell more magazines then you ever have....its worth a try

i figured this would be a much more discussed thread...
It would be a premier project car that a lot of people would pay attention to, at least i thought.

I think if they want to do a DSM, it should be the GS-X, not the GS-T. No AWD wouldn't do the 4G63 (or DSM's, for that matter) any justice. To show everyone that DSM's have balls, go all out with AWD. Whether it's a 1G or 2G, well, that's a matter of personal preference.

Why not a talon they can be had for cheaper then the eclipse and there the same car. But to really do the dsm brand justice it needs to be an awd. You`ll never get all the traction you need to properly launch the car and thats one of things that makes the muscle guys wary of racing us well that and the big turbo under the hood. its just fun to show some of these guys that there is a replacment for displacment

Eclipse, Talon or Laser, they are all same thing in regards to performance.. And yes, I'd go with the AWD too. (The FWDs have better pull in 3rd and higher gears; freeway speeds, but the AWD was the one to with if you want the best 1/4 mile times and track day fun. Good cars.
