hey guys i just found out that chevy recalled the corvette because the roof can fly off the car how nice right, i guess the glue they used on the roof is not good enough and off it comes. here is some info on it http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/c...hi-business-hed and here are some pics of the car with the roof gone http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/04/21/corvette-roof-panels-blow-off/

what more impressive is that i hope someone races one and is video taping just as the roof blows off the car, and looses the race, now that would be runny.

everyone has recalls, GM is no exception. I've never liked the whole idea of using glues anyways...

What they didn't explain is that it is happening to Corvettes with the DETACHABLE ROOF. The latches that secure it when you want the roof one, are the ones failing not the roof itself.( "The recall applies only to 2005 and 2006 vehicles with roofs that are designed to be detachable by releasing latches. The unintentional separation occurs when adhesive that holds the base of the roof to the car frame weakens and fails, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today on its Web site.") As that section of the article on the Chicago tribune, barely explain, then goes on in idiotic fashion to blame it on the roof, not the latches, since it is the latches that hold it. I would still buy a corvette, just not the one with the detachable roof because it is heavier, and the viper too. I see nothing wrong with GM.

i understand that every company has recalls but this is one that should have never happened period, i mean imagine if your driving behind on on the highway and the roof flies off it can kill you, imagine a 20lb part flying off the car and 70mph, it becomes a deadly projectile. other things i understand but not stuff like this, this is a plain poor engineering.

You are right, it is a dangerous flying projectile, but it only happens to Corvettes with the detachable roof, and yes, lazy engineering. But I don't think that the Z06 comes with the targa top option. Because their is nothing wrong with the coupe(no detachable roofs) It is still a monster.

oh yeah and seeing as most of the car is made of magnesium( that's why they could not get the glue to stick) imagine if it caught on fire, you would have a puddle of steel left over and firefighters could not do anything about it(water on a magnesium fire makes it burn faster because it burns so hot that it actually splits the o2 and hydrogen in the water apart and uses it as a catalyst).

well gm engineers don't do the brightest things guess where the starter is on the northstar V-8........UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD and the cobalt ss and the ion redline are a waste of time the only cars that gm evercame out with in the past couple years are the gnx and the corvettes AND THE ROOfS ARE FLYING OFF..... and on that note i'll write my take on this, hey they got the convertable at no extra charge

It doesn't surprise me. Them things are sick fast. What is the top speed? 186 mph? At least have some common sense to make a decent roof. Lol. :-P For that speed, your going to need something good. I doubt most people reach that speed, but still. 60 is enough to make a roof fly off if it isn't any good. I kind of have to thank GM though. They are forever going to need techs to fix their booboo's because they don't do anything right... Lol.

So true and good information. I knew it burned faster, but didn't know why. ;-) I didn't even think about it! Lol. That'd suck. Everyone would know your car is on fire. I've seen magnesium on fire, and boy does that stuff burn extremely bright! They use that stuff to send signals in the air in the military!!! BTW. I hear that the foam doesn't work either... Is that true?
