This is a continuation of something we did at the old forum. Some may remember, for those who don't, enjoy.

The 1982 BAMBY
http://www.rumcars.org/images/c-bamby.jpg

CONFIGURATION: Rear engine, RWD microcar
ENGINE/DRIVELINE: pull-start .049L single cylinder two valve internal combustion engine.
POWER/TORQUE: Est. 5HP and 3lbs/ft both at 310 rpm
TRANNY/DRIVETRAIN: Single speed transaxle RWD (one wheel only)
SEATING: One occupant only       FUEL: Unleaded gasoline
1/4 MILE: Never tested.          TOP SPEED: 27 MPH
COST: No set value, though examples sell for $50,000 USD.

INFO: This particular example was built in limited numbers in Hull, England, by Alan Evans. The vehicle was shown at a prominent auto show where it was applauded, nonetheless, only saw about 6 months of production. This particular phtot is of one of the final models, whereas the earlier models sported a single headlamp and a gullwing door.

1989 Chevrolet Spectrum Turbo
http://www.isuzuperformance.com/gifs/carpix/rick04.jpg

CONFIG: Transversely mounted front engine, FWD subcompact car.
ENGINE/DRIVELINE: 1.5L 8 valve inline four cylinder, turbocharged.
POWER/TORQUE: 97HP @ 5600 RPM and 93 lbs/ft at 3700 RPM
TRANNY/DRIVETRAIN: 3 spd auto or 4 and 5 spd manual, all transaxles.
SEATING: 4 occupants.          FUEL: 91 unleaded (rec)
1/4 MILE: 15.7 @ 83MPH         TOP SPEED: 114 MPH
COST: $1,500 USD

INFO: This car was actually the beginning of GM's Geo venture (though not called Geo until 1989) where GM redesigned envirofriendly imports for sale stateside. The Spectrum was actually the Isuzu I-Mark in Chevy clothing. Very hard to come by today, though they make a decent sleeper car, most aftermarket parts will have to be custom fabricated. The last of the Chevy AND Geo Spectrum was produced in 1989, when it was dropped. The next Geo sedan became the Toyota Corolla as a Geo Prism, and Isuzu continued it's joint venture by introducing the Geo Storm, which was the Isuzu Impulse otherwise. Pity it didn't get the turbo engine.

1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R, VspecII
http://www.iol.ie/~donohoer/Nissan_Skyline_R34_GTR_front_quarter.jpg

CONFIGURATION: Longitudinally mounted front engine, AWD midsized coupe (also offered as sedan)
ENGINE/DRIVELINE: 2.6L DOHC 24 valve inline six cylinder, twin turbocharged, intercooled.
POWER/TORQUE: 277HP @ 6800 RPM and 295 lbs/ft @ 4400 RPM (*)
TRANNY/DRIVETRAIN : 6 spd manual, AWD
SEATING: 4 occupants, safely     FUEL: 91 unleaded at least.
1/4 MILE: 13.7 @103.5 MPH        TOP SPEED: 155MPH (limited)
COST: $92,000 USD, when available.

INFO: Nissan's ultra successful GT car has won many JGTC championships. Though never available from a dealer stateside, a number of companies did import and federalize japanese Skylines, but due to negligence on business owners parts the federal government halted all importation and federalization of all Skylines. The super buff RB26DETT offered in the R34 rivals, in many opinions, only the Toyota Supras 2JZGTE. The Skyline was initially romanticized by the Playstation game, Gran Turismo, proceeding to earn a vast following thereafter in the USA. THE Vspec-II offered Nissans ATESSA 4 wheel steering system, combined with a suspension dampening system that made this car a venerable track monster.

Caterpillar R2900G XTRA
http://cmms.cat.com/cmms/servlet/cat.dcs.cmms.servlet.ImageServlet?imageid=C065319&imageType=2

CONFIGURATION: longitudinally mounted rear engine AWD underground mining loader.
ENGINE/DRIVELINE: 14.6L CAT diesel, unknown layout, turbocharged.
POWER/TORQUE: 378hp @ 2100 RPM and 857 lbs/ft @ 1200
TRANNY/DRIVETRAIN: Direct link 4 speed tranny, both forward adn reverse, AWD.
SEATING: 1 occupant.              FUEL: Diesel
1/4 MILE: 64.5 @ 15 MPH           TOP SPEED: 16.8 MPH, in reverse!
COST: $480,000 USD, wholesale.

INFO: This little ditty is used in the uderground mining field. The scoop on the front can lift over 100,000 lbs. It seats one driver, no passengers. While the torque seems small, one must remember the extremely low gearing of this machine, as it's forward top speed is 15 MPH, and reverse top speed is 16.8 MPH. THE AWD set up can cross most any rouged terrrain without getting stuck. This particular vehicle come with a choice of engines, but at the time of this writing the engine list was not available.

BOEING F/A 18E SUPER HORNET
http://www.planet.fi/~mohman/model/f18_2.jpg

CONFIGURATION: Twin afterburner engine fighter jet.
ENGINES: Two (2) General Electric F414-GE-400 22,000lb. thrust class turbofan afterburner engines.
POWER: Est. 56,000+HP at full throttle.
TRANNY/DRIVETRAIN: Not applicable.
SEATING: Single occupant, though other versions offer dual occupancy.
FUEL: Unk.
1/4 MILE: Est. 9.75 @ 110 MPH
TOP SPEED: More than 1300MPH at 36000 feet.
COST: $40,000,000 USD under special contract.

INFO: Testing on this fighter jet started in the mid 1970's and has evolved to the nasty concoction of dreams we have today. Though the 1/4 mile times may seem slow don't forget that once a car has run this time is it out of any other potential energy, and is finished, tongue hanging out, while the Super Hornet is off in the distance and just beginning to get very serious about speed. There are at least 5 variations of Hornet/Super Hornet, some allowing the occupancy of a pilot and co-pilot. Smashing the wallet at a walloping and cool 40 million a pop, don't look for any of these to be tuned by HKS anytime soon.

(*) These numbers are the companies claim, and do not accurately reflect the actual performance of the car.

Comments, now.

i must not remember but what is the point, i mean they are all different, really no comparison. and really if you wanted to ultimate horsepower you should have put the space shuttle, it has about 15-37 million horse power.

I posted this first VERSUS post in the old forums on 6/28/2004. You didn't post your first SCC post until 7/13/2004, and even then you didn't actually intro yourself and become a regular SCC poster until 2/17/2005. You were a reg at the HondaTuning boards until then, so yes, this was posted before you came to SCC, but were still a member of the same forum hosting.

And by the way, I did use the shuttle in that post. Here's it's specs...

NASA OV-103, Space Shuttle Discovery

Year: 1984   Engine: There's over 49 of them!     0-60: 1.12 seconds     Horsepower: 158,600,000 horses at 100% throttle  Fuel:  Liquid hydrogen, MMH, LTO, incl. secret materials   Top speed: 19,000 mph+ (thats around 5.2 miles a SECOND)   COst:  $2,000,000,000, for the shuttle only, not including the upkeep and upgrades.

Holy crap, thats alot of power!  Spirit, how long have you been on these boards for?  I know you've been semi-moderating it for long as hell but it just struck me that at one point you were new.

Anyways I love learning about all these different vehicles.  Good job and keep em comin!

Oh yeah man, 11/1/2003 was when I became official. I remember guys like joegekko, delsolfox, few other guys. 7MGTEJOE and Simkin were here before I was. learned alot here, and where I am it's hard to find car nuts to converse with so I hung around.

Yeah Versus started as a friday night boredom post. It's just for grins and giggles. I think it's a nice comparison to see vehicles that we know and others that are not as common, and compare typical numbers we use here.

Wow... you're dating yourself now, Spirit. I, too, remember those nice wrench turners. I wonder what happened to JoeGekko?
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

No wait... uuhh...scratch that.

And I mean forget it!

Uh yeah I dunno whatever happened to joegekko. I wanna know too, where Simkin and 7MGTEJOE went.

Yeah, I know how you feel. Where I am it's hard to find car nuts too. Everyone I know just likes, football, or basketball, or just plain out music. I like that stuff too, but my true passion is with cars, and that, I could talk hours about. Because I don't really watch any "ball" sports, just the speed channel, which racing and the such is sports. I would rather tinker with my car then watch a game.

I guess you're right. I'm older age wise as well as forum wise than you. That's life, I suppose. :P

I'm sure the latter two will resurface. Simkin is elusive, so who knows what he's up to. As for 7MGTEJoe, he's kinda the same. They'll both be back as some point.

2GNT, it's hard to believe it's been here this long. It's been goo tho.

Yeah that's about it up here too. It's hard to ind car guys to converse with. They're here, but the problem is that most people don;t understand the craft or the lifestyle. What can you say, right?
