Well even though the page isn't loading for me, I'll comment.

I like the new eclipses It's a shame theres no awd on them though and they weigh almost as the 96 Windstar we had.

The car won't sell very well I'm guessing though the GT version is nice it still weighs way to much maybe if it droped like 400 lbs it would be a good sports car.

PS the page loaded the Spyder looks very nice with the top down it surprised me with it's good looks and incredible slowness.

The drop top just follows the same body lines as a coupe.  I see nothing wrong with that.

The Eclipse itself, while nice, is rather heavy.  Im sure there are a few things tuners can find to rid the car of some weight while still maintaining the car's daily driveability.

Has anybody tried to figure out exactly what it is that weighs so much?

i bet you the extra weight came from the way the body is put together usually its not interior parts or anything like that its the way the body is made, I'm betting you it rides a ton better and its got a way stiffer chassis then the older eclipses but with that you get a car that weighs more.

Personally, I dont see whats wrong with Mistus.  While I do agree that the second gen Eclipses and the Evos are their top cars, what makes them worse from the other common tuner cars?

I like the new Elclipse, and the spyder is pretty good looking (although i gota say its looks weird as hell with the top up).  I agree with Civicking on where the weight came from, that link said there was a 55 percent increase in torsional rigidity.  the weight shouldn't feel too bad either.  It has a 3.8L 260hp V6 in it.  They say the power to weight ratio is the same as the Miata's.

This is the exact same problem and solution the Nissan Skyline had.  The car weighed a ton so they made it have a ton of power.  Now dont go thinking Im saying this is as good as the skyline....cause thats a whole nother story.

I don;t dislike the lines as much as I miss the 4G63, but make no mistake. Now that we have the EVO, there will never be another factory turbo eclipse.

Lude, bro, I gotta disagree with ya man. I think the 1gen DSM's (and if we gotta pick nits, those built before '92) are the best of the Eclipse line, simply from the fact that these particular 4G63's didn;t suffer from the dreaded crankwalk phenomena that the later models did. What's the point of a powerful 4 banger if, when you mod it beyond 300HP, you run the risk of ruining the whole engine?! Sure we can safely mod the 4G63 to over 400 horses, AS LONG AS IT'S A 6-BOLT. Anything else and you will ruin a block.

There are also hi-po turbokits available from DDP for the 3gen and he new ones, both the 4's and 6's.

Well mitsu's going into safety mode right now. remember the last eclipse? those door jams were to make the car stronger, yet it looked ugly. People are starting to listen to those allstate comercials about safe cars, and so are auto makers... well the people are atleast.

i think the Chinese will be formidable when they get everything together right now we are acting just like they did in the 70/80's when Japanese cars came out they were not the greatest at first but at time went on they got really good and i think the same thing will happen with the Chinese especially if they want to survive in the car market, they can't build a crap car or they will go bankrupt fast.
