Maybe a 93 Skyline GT-R basicly complete stock this is the one car I would be a purist with. It's not really a dream car since you can find them in Canada on autotrader for about 19-30 grand and 11-17 for the GTS-M's

Either that or some crazy blingy shinner boarderline ricer looking fast as fook car

goal: the ability to go head to head with a 911 gt3 (or comparable car) on the strip or the track and come out on top more often than not, but retaining the capability of being a 'daily driver'.

starting material: Infiniti G35 6-speed coupe (03-04)

suspension: JIC coilovers, chassis bracing to increace rigidity, strut braces all around, etc.
engine/drivetrain: Cosworth VQ35 Hi-Comp (11.0:1) short block, head, pistons... possibly Crower rods, Nismo valves, JWT cams. nismo or stillen headers, borla exhaust. stillen CAI. clutch upgrade would be a must... something with excellent holding power yet not too difficult to actuate. i'd need to do some research. overall, i'd aim for about 420ish hp, maybe slightly more.
brakes: brembo gran turismo big brake, slotted rotors, braided lines.
appearance: a subtle bodykit, nothing too obnoxious. wedsport TC005 wheels, michelin pilot sport ps/2's (maybe a set of track tires for when im serious =P). c/f hood and trunk (weight savings).

thats all i can think of at the moment... =)

yes, i know, its not turbo. but i've driven both turbo and n/a cars for extended periods of time, and while turbos are certainly very appealing, i prefer the instantaneous response and linearity of a well tuned n/a engine on the track. call it personal preference.
i'd keep all the creature comforts (ac, stereo, etc), so as to not make it a trailer queen.

not really. though i admit that a stillen s/c or jwt tt kit would have rather enticing power numbers, i'd just be going for a very well put together n/a setup. think porsche 911 gt3. also, a high compression setup isnt the most boost friendly, but would allow me to take maximum advantage of normal aspiration tuning and such.
again, as i said, it's sort of a personal preference on my part.

i hear ya...
but with a beginning base of a G35 (a heavy car) and keeping it N/A, you'd have to at least completely rebuild the block, if not swap it, to be able to even hang with a car as agile as a GT3.

I understand that going F/I on a high compression engine is dangerous, but it has been done on higher compression engines, safely (i.e. toyota celica 16:1 compression)  and a supercharger gives you a boost in power, while retaining the throttle response, and instantaneous power (as opposed to waiting for boost with a turbo) that you get from an N/A car, and when it comes to the VQ engine, stillen's been in the business for years, if anyone knows how to F/I a 350Z or G35, it's stillen.

however, while ending up much more expensive, it is a unique, and appealing idea to keep the car N/A

I see a lot of votes for the NSX and Skyline....hate to break it to you guys who voted for them, but they are considered supercars.

I'm fortunate to already own the car I want most other than the exotics/supercars. It's a 1993 300ZX. But if I had to choose a car other than the Z, it would be either a E46 BMW M3 or a Lotus Elise.

thats part of the reason i'd like to do it. theres a quite a few of tt and sc g35's and 350z's out there, but i havent heard of many higher powered n/a z33's. sure, it'll probably be more expensive, and youre right about probably having to heavily massage the block, but in the end it would be a rather unique car.

you're also right about the weight issue... i'd have to do something about that 450lb weight deficit. i'd probably start with lighter body panels and go from there. realistically, it would probably be hard to get it down to ~3000lbs, but then again, it'd be completely customized for my driving style, and it'd closer to 50-50 weight distribution than a 911, so it'd probably be more neutral handling.

anyways, this is all theoreticall at this point... but hopefully it'll come together some day =)

rofl... if you can call it a midlife crisis when i'm 19. that's cool. i'm just hoping that the engineering degree i'm currently working on will get me into a good enough pay scale where i can afford to get a track/project car like the one i described.

props for being a 19 year old with real values related to your car
most of 'em now days have no idea how to modify a car

anyway, the right position in the right engineering job, paired with the right lifestyle, will have you in that car sooner than you'd believe, and you are one 19 year old that i would want behind the wheel of a car like that.

good luck with your goals
