ok gusy i have spent that last week looking for a newer car, i have looked from audi, benz, honda, toyota, nissan and everything in between.  i need a bigger luxury type car, nothing smaller than an accord. i would like a 5 speed but its not mandatory. a v6 would be good but i can deal with a 4 as long as its got the power to cruise nicely, good mileage is important, and the max i'm looking to spend is 8500. well if you can find anything thanks, i have been looking as the 98+ toyota camry v6 5-speed so far that is the only one that matches everything i want and is still reliable.

Did you look at any Jags?  Some of the older ones don't go for that much I dont think, and they still look classy and good enough in my opinion.

i did but reliability is not that good and gas mileage down right sucks, i also looked at some older 3-seris bmws but again the reliability thing i would have gone with a benz but the auto transmission suck and some of their engines have head gasket problems. right now i don't think i will be getting anything Europe because reliability is way too low. i also have been looking at the portege5, its not bad.

have you considered an Altima or a Maxima? the later model versions of these cars are pretty much the same size but I would give the nod to the Altima. they have gobs of power and handle great out of the box and I'm sure there is great aftermarket support. SCC did a write up on the 2002 Altima and it had some impressive features for a car that cheap. it was between 22 and 26 thousand dollars 4 years ago so I'm sure it's a steal now...

SORRY...I just looked and it looks like the 2002 Altima is going in the $14,000 range...good luck

but check out the reliability info i found:

Common problems on this vehicle are failures of the Ignition Coils and the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor. Failure of the Ignition Coils and MAF Sensor can cause the engine to run rough or illuminate the check engine light. The cost to repair the Ignition Coils is estimated at $302.94 for parts and $65.00 for labor. The cost to repair the MAF Sensor is estimated at $488.19 for parts and $39.00 labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

Audio system: Popping and crackling noises in the audio system are often due to cell phones plugged into the cigarette lighter. Using a different power source or moving the phone often helps. (2000)
Cold-starting problems: The engine may idle too slowly or stall when first started (below 40 degrees *** Reprogramming of the powertrain-control module is required. (2000)

Engine misfire: Bad mass airflow sensor can cause lack of power, acceleration. New MAF and reprogramming computer should fix the problem. (2000)

Sunroof/moonroof: The headliner may sag near the sunroof because the Velcro does not hold sufficiently. Additional clips were being installed under warranty. (2000)

Vehicle noise: Noises from the right front strut require replacement of the rubber spring seat. (2000)

NHTSA Recall History
2001-02: The pin on the lower control arm could break, causing a knocking sound and abnormal steering.

2002  w/electronic throttle-control system: Due to the incorrect design of the accelerator-pedal stopper, the pedal can "overtravel," causing the check-engine light to come on and/or reducing engine speed.

One question...are you getting married?  Please say no, you are too young to get married.  Anyway when I get some ideas I will shoot them your way.

That Max is very nice.  Nissan does not make alot of MT Maximas.

Okay, I just read your info on the Max so maybe not but the 1. 00-02 Infinity G20 5speed manual sounds very nice.  Does that have the SR20 in it?

ok IMO, there are a couple things i dont like about your list.
1: I would omit the G20, I hear they break down alot, and arent very fun to drive, although i have no evidence.
2: You seem to be looking for a car with reasonable room and useable back seats. the prelude is not the car you're looking for.
3: despite having a V-6 and a great cruising feel, a camry is the ultimate anti-fun car.
4: have you thought about the late 90's audi sedan's? i think that's the car you want if you can fork up the green.
other than that your list sounds good, and I would suggest the accord or the ES300.

well as the g20 i read a ton of reviews and as long as you get the 5 speed its a fun car. i know the prelude does not have usable back sets but i can't say no the the engine and looks its my favorite year prelude. i know about the camry that's why its fairly low on the list. the Audi's were on my list but i head that they have really expensive parts really expensive more then BMW or Mercedes. and they manual transmission are not that good. i have also been looking at a 97 Mercedes e320
