So why is your Cav. running so poorly?

Well I'm not so sure that a retuned ECU will help. What make syou think it needs that? When did it start running bad?

well my car has a custom turbo kit that i peiced together my self runing about 7-8 lbs of boost. most of the time the car runs in limp mode and if i give it a little over a 1/4 throttle it will back fire and putter. i recently put on a front mount intercooler and that didnt fix the problem. im running 370cc rc engineering injectors a msd fuel pump and a apex s-afc. i need to take it somewhere so they can programm the ecu never to go into a limp mode or maybe to just not retard the timing? if anyone knows of anything.

so what are you running in the way of electronics? Chances are, the computer is freaking out about the boost, what kind of injection system does the car have stock?
Also, did you disconnect or remove any emissions equipment?

its running a apex piggy back fuel controller. and im running no catyltic converter and the air temp sensor isnt hooked up. ima try to get an intake this weekend so i can hook up the sensor. and the car has three check valves in it so its def not seeing boost.

with 7-8psi you need at least 4-5 check valves, its seeing boost. next the intake air temp is not going to do that, so don't waste your money, check the throttle position sensor and also i bet you have a check engine light on what is the code?

Step one should be to get everything back into check so that the ECU knows which way is up.

ITS A 97' WHEN I PUT THE COMPUTER ON IT THE ONLY CODES THAT CAME UP ARE EGR VALVE AND CAM SENSOR I WENT AHEAD AND CHANGED THE CAM SESOR BUT IT STILL SAYS LOW RESISTANT? I ALSO SWAPED OUT THE EGR BUT THAT DIDNT DO ANYTHING?

that makes sense why the car is running in limp mode right now.. the computer does not know where the engine is in it's revolutions.
I would start with unhooking the battery for a while to reset the computer so it "forgets" the codes it has and see if that makes a difference. If you still get the cam sensor code.. you either have a wiring issue (harness get too close to the turbo and it's plumbing, or did you have to move the harness around when installing the turbo?) or the magnetic "lump" on the cam that triggers the sensor has either gone bad or been damaged by something.

the cam sensor is used for fuel injection syncronization they also have a crank sensor and thats whats used for rpm. i wonder if he has a number for that code it should be P0*** if i had that i coudl help more.

try www.jbody.org its a jbody site or cavalier site, How are you retarding your timing for boost? I would suggest getting an msd boost timing master or running megasquirt. is it a 2.2 or 2.4?

if its the 2.2 watch your head gasket. They can't take anything, and often go without any boost.... You shoulda got a mitsubishi. They are designed for boost

Welll, I dunno about that. I disagree. I like the 1gen DSM's but Mitsu has a VERY bad reputation for quality right now, with EVO clutch problems, 7-bolt crankwalk issues that Mitsu never made right to it's buyers, and then there was the nasty little thing In Japan where they didn;t tell buyers about serious flaws and recalls of the vehicles. No, I'd say the Cav is a bit more trustworthy right now. Besides, the ECOTEC engine is awesome and stout. There's a reason it powered the first FWD into the 7's!
Matter of fact, these issues mentioned are part of the reason consumer confidence is way down and Mitsus are sitting on the lots right now. Mitsu was expected to fold last year, but thanks to DCX they didn't.
