Welcome, and good luck on your learners. It's strange you should mention SCC replacing HCI, I just left SCC for HCI. That's a whole different topic tho.

I admire your desire to save for a car. I have only one recommendation. Hold off on the WRX for now. It's usually best to get a knockaround car for your first ride, and plunk hard cash for a better ride later. (Maybe that's what you're doing)

Welcome!

definatly make your first car a beater.. Living in an area with a lot of money, I see a lot of parents buying their kids the car they want.. then I see a lot of them quickly wrecked, destroyed, or just plain having the snot beat out of them. Learn on something that won't kill you or your bank account.. keep it for two years, and on your 18th birthday (unless you live in Jersey.. then it would be your 19th) go buy the WRX. Your car skills and your insurance bills will thank you.

Welcome Whiplash, nice to have you with us.  I agree with what they all said.  My parents got me a bimmer for my first car and truthfully I wish they hadn't.  I felt I just wasn't good enough to drive it (still kinda feel that way although you'd need to cut my arms off to pry it from my greasy hands).

Anyways good luck with getting that suby someday.  Its a great car.

Welcome, Whiplash08. I'm sort of in the same boat as amsbimmerguy. When I got my license 4 years ago I became my family's second driver, and except for a brief 2 1/2 week period when I owned a Neon (it got stolen and wrecked in an auto-fraud scheme) I only drove my Dad's 1998 Mazda MPV SUV. I had to drive it extra-careful because that is my family's only car and if it were wrecked we'd be SOL. Now I have a 240SX that I have to drive extra-careful because it's overheating and needs a new speedometer. Take it from experience and follow these guy's advice- get a beater, but make sure it's in proper running condition or you can handle the repairs.

They're probably not exactly what you're looking for, but they're pretty close, plus alot cheaper, and probably better beginner's car's in the long run.

now if you insist on a WRX then here's what you're working with, so what's your budget? you know that there are alot of great cars out there besides the WRX.

Thanks, but after careful thinking and i have come to the fact that right now the WRX is probally out of my range, so my plan will probally be to get a small job to get some cash so i can buy something cheap and bnuild it up in my own vision over a period of time, maybe start out when i work on it possibally a coold air intake, you know the kind of cheaper stuff until i get more money to put into it. does that sound like a good plan.

First you need to learn how to slide around corners on dangerous mountain passes.  Just Kidding!  Do that on a video game.  Your idea sounds like a good one.

Great Idea.  I have been driving (legally)for 12 years now, and I still do that.  I just like to buy something cheap, customize it, and make sure it has a personnality.

My first car was a 1970 CJ5.  It was a hunk of crap, but I worked on it and made it special, if only in my eyes.

Never let anyone ridicule you for your taste in cars as you work on them.  Don't do something or not do something because someone else tells you it is cool/uncool.  Enjoy whatever you decide to buy.

Oh yeah, and thanks.  You got me thinking about subes, I know what my next project is going to be now!  Not a WRX though, something more interesting.
