240SX Digital Speedometer

The '92 240SX automatic coupe I'm looking at is a lock. My dad will drop by the owner's tommorow while I'm at work and test-drive and offer to buy the car, barring any unmentioned problems or catastrophic failures. One problem it has is that the digital speedometer doesn't work. The rest of the gauges (all analog) work fine. So my questions are:
1) Do you think this is a problem with the speedo gauge only, the entire cluster, and/or with the wiring harness?
2) I am having trouble locating a digital 240SX speedo or cluster on the Internet and 240SX's are rare in the nearby pick-a-parts. Can I just "plug and play" an analog cluster in the digital one's place or will I need a new wiring harness? I know that the '89-91 clusters are incompatible with the '92-94 wiring.

You may want to check the fitment of the guage cluster vs the digital dash that Nissan fitted to the Maxima and the 300ZX as well - it may be the same unit...

When you talk about the 300ZX digital cluster, do you mean the Z32? I've seen a Z31 digital cluster and I know it wouldn't work- the Z31 readout is completely digital, while the 240SX's is only the speedo. If push comes to shove, I'll just have a dealer install a new digital speedo. I'm probably going to have all the nessesary work done at a shop anyways, just because it's too f'n cold out to work on the car. BTW, I STILL don't have the 240SX because my family has been so busy, but the owner says it's basically mine. He's not pushing to have it sold; I just need to test drive it, pay for it, and get it home. That probably won't happen till Monday because my family is so busy. Here's hoping he doesn't renege and sell it out from under me... Hell, here's hoping I can actually get a hold of him. Having dissimilar work schedules sucks.

Yeah, I did mean the readout from the Z31 - I have the same one in my Maxima - the one with digital display of speed, revs, fuel/volt, temp/oil press, with the units of measurement able to be displayed in km/h or mph, but I guess that's not what you're looking for.

I finally got to test drive the Nissan. I love it. I felt comfortable right away driving it, and I offered to buy it. I will be picking it up on Wednesday or Thursday once all the paperwork is complete. Anyways, with the dash, since your Maxima and my 240SX are of similar age, I'll take a second look at that Z31 dash. I'm going to find a Nissan forum and ask this question there. But again, most likely, I'll have a shop do any repairs. I really don't want to do car work in the cold. I've been having flashbacks of last winter, when I had to change the MPV's battery in -20F (-29C) weather at night. Whilst it was snowing. Worst time for a battery to die, EVER.

Will do, pics will probably be up sometime after New Year's Day, as will a CarDomain.
