Gee, now if only I could figure out how to keep the EGR from tripping on at all. I replaced the fuel filter and plugs when I bought the car, but I haven't done the rest of what you're suggesting. What do replacement EGR valves cost?
As far as I know, this cannot be done with out some serious ECU conflicts. And if it's anything like my Camry, the EGR is a total pain in the ass to work with anyhow. Oh wait...I see your maxi is an '87. Well then, it might be possible.
Back to the main topic...as it's been said, it's normal. Whenever I reset my ECU and let the motor sit cold for a while, I can't believe how much harder my car pulls when I first start it up. Not cold as in COLD...just cold as in over a few hours. Then again, the VSV on the charcoal canister for my EVAP system is stuck open, so after a while of running it, it throws a CEL code. Which reminds me...I've got to call Toyota tomorrow and see how much they charge for those things.

I guess the upshot of the power dip when warm is that I'm less likely to give it, thus saving a little bit of petrol (mabye).
Still fighting those voices in my head that keep telling me to get a full 2 1/2" exhaust system, new headers and a high-flo cat...
