Lineup for a future USCC?
Some suggestions: All megabuck tuning house rides A few classes, allowing realistic street rides and cubic dollar cars to both appear in a competition All cheapie cars, built by actual people, who actually turn their own wrenches
Any thoughts? Or, if you can't think of which would work better, suggest an ideal lineup of 10 cars you'd like to see in competition (in tuned form).

actually i'd like to see a 2500 lb. 350Z with 400 lb. ft. tq. and 380 hp. run against the usual, then have a "below 10 g's" car class. what do you guys think?

Tuning house rides is definitely out in my book. Nothing tarnishes the spirit of the contest more than that. I mean, I remember when that Chen shmuck entered his megabucks Ferrari 360 Modena. I wanted to puke.
Now, if they actually let some of the competitors who submit their entries to be voted upon in, I'd finally be happy. Sure, I like seeing the uber rides occasionally, but I'd rather see something that someone built by THEMSELVES.
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

the ferrari won too ![]()
haha i still remember that tiburon's burnout. :P which reminds me of it's 1/4 mile time that would have been a good contest too. It's too bad the guy had to enter a stock car, but i guess it gave it some flair

Didn't Mani's Supra beat the Ferrari in the drags and road course? Those are the two contests I would care about the most.

I don't remember, so I'll have to dig it out and look. Still, it took a heavily modified car to dethrone the Ferrari from stomping in every category. And the 360 was fully stock if I remember...

Exactly. Can you simply imagine how badass a car might be if you used the remainder of whatever money the difference might be between the cost of your car and the 360 Modena? I can.

Base price for 2004 360 Modena is $155,000. I'm imagining an STi with $120,000 in aftermarket parts...... Just to demonstrate the ferocity of a $150,000 EVO/STi/Supra/Skyline, the HKS time-attack EVO from that Car and Driver article was valued at around $80-90K, and that thing could easily OWN a 360 Modena.

I guess the thing was, that the aformentioned cubic dollar tuner-house cars with tonnes of cash dumped into them, are far, far less driveable and liveable than an equally priced exotic. *shrug* Both are pretty academic, inasmuch as they are waaaaay out of most of SCC reader's budgets.

I kind of like the idea of Project SVT Focus, actually. Think about it: The reason we work with sport compacts as opposed to just going out and buying a fast ride is because we find it more aethetically pleasing to kick the crap out of some overpriced rocket with a beast we built in our garage.
What I'd like to see is more cars like that. I want to see some guy that built a car that owns up the cars that other mags specialize in. The old-school muscle cars are too easy, though. I want to beat up an Aston Martin DB9 with a 350Z, Supra, Silvia, or other rear-drive import. I'd like to take apart an M3 with (insert cheapest crappiest rear-driver you can think of).
Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, Vipers, Ferraris, Lambo Gallardos and Murcielagos, Masseratis, M-B SL65's...
...all taken apart systematically by an early-gen EVO. How *** awesome would that be?

Well, how about kicking the crap out of an E46 M3 with a nicely tuned E30 M3 (the 4cyl one).
My ideal lineup? 15 cars, with 5 being RWD, 5 FWD, and 5 AWD. The newest that they can be would be 3 years old, so that would mean anything newer than MY2003 would be out (most of the tuning houses seem to stick with modding the newest/latest/greatest).
Add in the aforementioned 0-160-0 (kph) test, possibly an autocross (or rally cross in the case of the AWD cars), in gear acceleration tests, and the benchmark car (okay, so make it one of SCC's better sorted project cars), and it woud be sooooo much improved.
Am I nuts, or does this seem kind of like what you guys would like to see as well?

I really like that idea, but instead of having RWD, FWD, and AWD, it should be divided up time-attack style. FWD limited, FWD unlimited, RWD/AWD limited, RWD/AWD unlimited. Then, take out the 3 year limit on the unlimited-class cars. I think a contest like that could be very close, and you wouldn't have 300hp Integras competing against 800hp Supras.

I like the idea of a dollarcap, but how could you realy police suck a thing? Hard to do.
In OUR mag I think there should be two contests. Hmmmm. One for all out tuner houses. Another for real world machines. The real world would be real builders, not affiliated with a tuner house, who build their cars and turn their own wrenches. Note: turn their own wrenches. I think the competitions would be very close to the USCC, maybe add a slalom.
MY 10 Picks (consider them tuned heavily as an experienced shadetree mech can tune them):
1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. 1989 Chevrolet IROC-Z, blown. 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. 1984 Mazda RX7 w/ a 383 Chevy V8. 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4. 2005 Chryler 300 Hemi, blown. 1998 Lexus GS300 with the 2JZGTE. 1987 Subaru XT6, built VERY well. 1987 Ford Mustang hatch with a turbocharged 5.0L 1993 Honda Civic with an all motor B16A
Let the battle commence.
