...Or else I may just buy one. 3400 miles (that's two zeros), sequential manual transmission, stiff suspension, drop top (duh), 138 hp, 125 lb/ft, still under bumper to bumper factory warranty. The only two problems I had with it were the steering and the transmission. The steering wheel is small and wedges between my knees (I'm nine foot twelve). Rather than moving one hand all the way around the wheel (to do silly things like turn quickly), I have to use two hands between "10" and "2".
The sequential manual transmission: Crap. It's a giant slow shifting pain in the ass. Call me old fashioned, but I enjoy a clutch pedal and a proper shifter. Shifting the MR2 was like shifting the racing game at the arcade. If it shifted fasted, I'd be ecstatic, but it's slow and I'm pissed. The salesman wouldn't let me put the top down (he had combover issues) and flinched violently every time we hit a bump in the road (we took my favorite road, the "Drift Route")
I would not get geeky with this car, it would be my shiny happy daily driver. I promise not to drive it to hard or set any new records with it. I'll even rub it with diaper once in a while.If I need to haul crap, I've still got my Talon. It would hypothetically get, say, a TRD SC or something in a few years, and maybe some bigger brakes, but nothing else.
Anywho, it's just a thought. If I could get financing ($20K-ish), that'd be peachy, if not, life goes on.
Any yeas or nays would be much appreciated.

If you hate the shifter now.. you are going to hate it more as you put more miles on the car. Personally, I would wait and find a 5 speed...
Other than that.. they are great little cars.. no trunk to speak of, but lots of fun.

I know this is an exageration, but the MR2 is actually quite spacious compared to some other cars.

The only thing wrong that I can see is that SMT. Additionally, since they're no longer producing the car, parts could become expensive if something breaks.
And so you know, I don't think the TRD SC kit will fit that car. It's designed for the Corolla and Matrix, and some things might be different in the MR2's engine bay or setup. You'd better check with someone at either the dealer or with TRD first before even considering it.
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

If you buy Mr. 2, i'll buy Mrs. 2 just kidding, sorry i had to. The MR2 spyder is a great car assuming you can get hold of a stickshift. Don't you love that steering wheel?

I like the little things. Unless you want to reach into the old-school MR2 grab-bag, you really can't get any better than one of these babies. Relatively cheap, midengine layout.
On the other hand, I see a car with limited power production, that costs and sucks a little more than a Mazda Miata. On the other hand, the MR2 is a little more of an individualistic car, and doesn't give up that nice engine placement (although the Miata still has sweet balance).
I'd tend to go Miata, but really, it's personal choice. I haven't heard anything that really KILLS the car, other than that stupid transmission.

If you ever want to take it autocrossing the 3rd gen. MR2 is becoming a strong in-class rival to the Miata. It's stolen quite a few victories from the otherwise omnipotent Miata.
