Josh Jacquot Leaving SCC

I just got this month's SCC and Josh has written his very last Slip Angle article. He is leaving SCC after about 7-7.5 years at SCC.

Hey Josh, if you are reading this, I know we've been hard on the magazine as of late, but we here on the message board still think SCC kicks ass harder than any other compact car magazine around by a huge margin. It's great that at least one magazine focuses on performance instead of some bogus F&F fads. I've learned a lot about tuning from this magazine and even if I don't always get what the articles are saying, I know that one day I will get it and my tuning experiences will be better for it. Thanks for the articles and the memories and good luck in your future endeavours.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Palazzo

I have yet to see this month's issue.. did they say who will be replacing him... and did they mention what Josh is going to be doing with his freetime?

That's a real bummer. I guess that the whole shift to a more corporate image rather than one of the true enthusiast was simply too much for Josh to handle. I'm sure that we'll start to see more of the mundane trash that litters the pages of SS and IT; therefore, I'll be subsequently cancelling my subscription when it runs out... unless I see something decent.

I can't say I'm thrilled about this...

Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

There was no info on any future plans or who his replacement will be. I'm kinda hoping resident geek Dave Coleman will take the job because he's, well, the resident geek. I too am worried about what direction the mag will go in, especially if Primedia installs someone who'll turn SCC into another SuperSuck clone.

If Dave Coleman is busy with Head Honcho-ness, there may be no time for geekiness. I'd go for the geekiness. Why the recent exodus of those who do not suck?

SCC was a great mag. Still has it's strong points, but they stopped writing about what I liked and started catering to a different business philosphy. I had to cancel.

Good luck Josh. You'll do fine I'm sure.

I feel the same about European car. Once upon a time they would showcase a "readers" car. At the very least it would be a well put together car that was not built by one of their main advertizers... they they brought out their "classifieds section where people could put up a picture and a paragraph.. and turned into a clone of road and track for European cars..

It's shame, I was a sunscriber before that since they were called VW & Porsche.

I certainly hope SCC does not go the same route

I know how you feel, man. I really think Jacquot was taking SCC back to the old days. He even reinstated the "...Of The Month" section. And I'm pretty sure he misses the way the mag used to be as much as we do. With any luck, the next editor will continue what Josh was doing, and return SCC to it's former glory.

I just read the article.

I was hoping for a better explination on both why he was leaving and who would be replacing him. I too hope that a resident staffer take his place so this magazine doesn't stray too far from it's roots.

I'd say Coleman would be next. Get out the calculus and topology books.

Man, I'm gonna miss Josh.  I don't konw the guy but he really knew his stuff, and I'll be damned if any other editor made better articles than Josh and his crew.  The only real reason I read SCC is for Josh, Coleman, and Mike Kojima.  Those guys are automotive genious's.  Good luck Josh and I sure hope Dave gets your place.

It's too bad that he's leaving. I haven't read it yet...but i'm wondering who is going to be left. i think that some of the regulars here could do a good job writing for the magazine.

he didn't have a very long stay as editor of the mag. oh well, best of luck to him and the Sport Compact Car Crew.

I'll admit, I didn't really like Jaquot at first, but he turned out to be all right.

Now, as for whoever the new victim is, that's another story. I doubt the mag could ever become another Super Suck clone. It serves a niche market that hasn't even been approached by any other mag: Smart people. Super Suckers, the Pushrod Pinheads, etc etc, so on and so forth, ad neuseum, they're all out there for the idiots.

Besides, we make fun of that crowd WAY too much for them to even think about it.

What I'm more concerned about is the new trend I've been seeing of really high-dollar stuff getting covered. In this last issue...guess what? I don't have a couple grand lying around to get my Focus' head made all nice and pretty by the Cosworth people! I go to college for Chrissake! And I really doubt all that many of us have the cash on hand to do that K20 engine job covered in the last issue (or maybe it was the one before that, I forget).

We don't have money. If we did, we'd all have Elises. Sure, it's nice to look at all the things we'd do if we have some cash, but for the most part, I'm pretty sure that everyone here would rather hear about the things we really do to our cars: the coil-overs that don't knock our teeth out, the ECU reflashes, tires, modest forced induction...things we can afford that keep our cars driveable and civil. I've got just one car, and as much as I like going fast, I also like not breaking my date's tailbone when I go out.

After all, if we wanted to hear about rock-hard suspensions that lower our body kit-clad rides to bumper-scraping heights, we'd read *** Super Suckers.
