Hello all, I'm new to these forums, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I didn't see a forum specifically for that, so I thought I'd post it in here. I've been reading SCC since June, and I must say, it's one of the better car magazines out there. As for what I drive, well that's not important. What is important is that I will hopefully be selling it and getting a 240sx soon. I've been meaning to join these forums for a while now...seems like I came at a bad time, what with the new look and all, and the move from user moderation. I must admit that the layout of this board is quite odd, it'll take some time getting used to it. Anyhow, I'm sure that won't bother me too much. I'm just glad that it doesn't cost money to post here. Well, here's to a good experience on these boards.

Yes, I did read the FAQ, some useful information there. Don't worry, I may be new here, but I'm not that much of a newbie. Besides, I already know what car I want, and what direction I'm going to take it. So I'm not going to ask that. And I already do all that other stuff concerning driving and forum etiquette; I thought it was just common sense. But thanks for the welcome.

Welcome! And what DO you drive anyway (out of morbid curiosity)?
2003 Kia Rio Cinco here. Great work car, comfy and purposeful. My other ride is a 1990 Eagle talon TSi with the engine in about 20 pieces.

Welcome to the SCC boards. And good luck with purchasing the 240SX from someone who isn't having good luck.

Heh, I drive a '99 Camry. At least it has a V6. It's not a bad car...but I got pushed into buying it, and I'm completely bored with it now. It's got a bunch of problems though. Blown struts, engine knocks when accelerating, CEL has been on since two days after I bought it, front suspension is pretty screwed, round-walled tire makes the wheel shimmy, couple of bulbs burnt out, etc. And besides, do you know how ridiculously hard it is to work on one of these things? Toyota engineers must have purposely designed it to be not user-friendly. For example, you can't change the rear spark plugs without removing the intake plenum, and that itself is just short of a miracle. And it doesn't help that the people at Toyota dealerships don't know what they're talking about most of the time. As far as buying a 240 goes, I found one that I like, but the guy wants over a grand more for it than blue book value. Not only that but he is not letting people test drive it who do not have the cash on hand. I'll just keep shopping...it pisses me off though that just because 240s have gone to the drifting fad, people think that justifies inflated price. Total BS if you ask me.

Remember, most japanese toyota engineers are about 4'6" and weigh 7 grams. Getting into those spaces is a walk in the park.

Hahaha, well it wouldn't matter how small you are. I'll try taking some pictures tomorrow to show you what I mean. I'm convinced that they purposely designed it to be hard to fix, so that you'd get pissed off and take it to the Toyota dealership.

I will second your oppinion on that. I have a Toyota Previa that is a royal PITA to work on. Thank god I am a mechanic by trade, and short. It also helps to have friends that have been working on them for a while.
I do belive they designed it hard so you take it to the dealership. They have to make some more money off of the repairs. At least it isn't "program engeneered" to break down at 100K like most american cars do. Toyotas are pretty trustworthy if taken care of.

There's this bolt in the back that is inside of this little thing that has wings on it. Then there is a stud sticking out of the firewall right where you'd need to put a wrench.

I finally got it out...along with the other bolts, which are ridiculously hard to get off as well. Only to find out that the EGR is bolted to the underside of the intake plenum, and in order get the plenum off, you've got to jack up the car and take off the whole EGR assembly from underneath.
I called Toyota to see what they did. The guy told me he's never removed an intake plenum for spark plugs and that I should just get some bendable extensions. Forget that, I won't be keeping this car long enough for me to spend more money on it.
By the by, I might be buying an '83 Supra. The guy says it has 109k miles on it, and he hasn't given me a price yet, but it has to be less than $6000, because that's the price I listed in my want ad. (I posted an ad saying that I was looking for a MKII/III Supra, 240SX, or Z32 on craigslist.) He also says it has pretty new Falken tires on it, and a flowmaster exhaust. I imagine he won't ask more than $5000 for it at the most. If the mileage is really that low, I might just buy it. He said the color is "adobe red"...I've never heard of that...but I think it must be that reddish brown color they put on Supras, like this. I'm not particularly fond of this color, but I do love these cars, and it's rare that you find one with so little miles, and a rust-free, straight frame.
