The SCC magazine for the current publication seemed very thin.

yeah it was thin but it did have some interesting tech stuff, like the suspension stuff and how to build a 10,000rpm k20 i liked that one the most.

They have gotten VERY thin.  I took out some mags from 4-5 years ago and they are worlds thicker.

Maybe they cut down on the advertisement. Thats no big deal.  They have to do whats economically viable for them to make some money.

I am unsure of that.. I also pick up "Street Rodder" by Primedia... they are at 226 pages.. and several VERY long articles.

Actually, it appears that SCC has sold more expensive ad space, therefore is able to cut down on smaller, less expensive ad space. The ad-to-content ratio, however, remains around 50%.

I think I've made my feelings about SCC known. It's not horrible by any means, and yes it has good info, but some of the content is just not what I'm looking for in a mag. SCC has really slipped the past 3 years. I even cancelled my subscription because of it, but little has changed. That's why I subscribe to another mag now.

Could be worse. Could be Super Street.

Modify mag seems to be a good one.  In the current issue it showed how to install a front mount intercooler in a 240sx.

I still think that SCC is the best one out there.  All of the mags have been going for the worse the past few years.  SCC will continue to go down to I believe, I just hope it never hits the low levels of some of the others.  The adds is some thing all of them have and need.  As the production costs increase with inflation, it will probably get worse.  Just my POV.  Think what you will.

I pulled one out from '03 and the mag must have been at least 2-3 times as think as the current issues.  I love SCC for its technical info and great writing, but I need a mag thats a little more than an hours read.  Thats why I haven't subscribed yet.  I wouldn't mind if they fattend it up a couple of notches and raised the price.  To me its worth it.

I can only guess with all the ricer rags out there... it is hard to sell ad space in SCC. It really is a shame, I have looked at the other magazines in Primedia's warehouse. I will occasionally look at European car.. but that is rare.. and I do pick up Street Rodder... now there is a nice thick magazine.

I've never seen Street Rodder before. Is it about compacts, musclecars, etc.?

hot rods... it is all about those overpowered antiques... Those guys get ALL the toyes.. from bling to fling.. they can do anything with those cars.. Really amazing stuff. Quite an inspiration if you want something different from the mainstream.

Modified is a decent mag, amazing paper quality. Good variety and consistently interesting feature cars. But the writing talent is seriously lacking in my opinion. I find myself constantly correcting grammatical errors when reading it. Its tolerable, but not as good as SCC has been in the past.

I finally picked up this month's mag... and behind it on the shelf was the same mag with a different cover? Same articles, same basic stuff on the cover.. just a different shot of the three miatas and the cover info was changed around... they doing a "TV Guide" thing were you have to collect all the covers?
