Tire Comparison/guides

So I've noticed in every other magazine that boasts about a "tire buying guide" on the cover it turns out to be a bunch of little press releases from the manufacturers, glowing about how wonderful their tires are, accomplanied by pictures that some times don't even show the tred pattern.  I have actually gone to tire company sites and seen the exact same words that other magazines publish as their own "analysis" of the tire. So basically if you only read those articles and knew nothing else about tires Khumo 712's would perform just as good as the top of the line advan or bridgestone rubber.
This is kind of why I turn to plead to SCC to give us some useful information.  I mean since tires are only the single most important upgrade you could do to any car.  I have been loving the making it stick articles, especially the last one where you finally started giving information about how to properly tune adjustable suspension.  Footwork is so essential but so often over looked or misunderstood.  I would think a tire article would fit in very nicely with the whole theme.

SCC actually used to do tire reviews before Josh Jacquot left. Grassroots Motorsports magazine also does tire reviews, both for track and street.

Thanks for the heads up on that.  I'll be checking that out.  seems to be the easiest thing to test that would be applicable on all cars...  how falken tires work on a honda gives me more info for my nissan than how some headers work on a specific engine.

Also, GRM doesn't do tire tests for every issue. You may have to wait for one, or find a back issue. I'll have to dig up the latest  GRM issue with a tire test I have, as they had a recent one. It autocross-tested street and track tires from Falken, BFG, Kumho, Hankook, and Avon IIRC.

Well ya I don't expect it in every issue.  I've been looking at spocom magazines for a couple years now, with decent regularity on several and never saw one even halfway helpful article.  closest thing i've seen recently is the sponsor plug they threw into the 24 hours of lemons article for the nitto tires they used.  Thanks again for the info.  I looked at the website quick and liked what I saw so they might have a new subscriber soon.
