Hey all. I'm kinda new to the import scene and I need a little help. I'm looking at buying a 1985 Toyota Celica GT. It's got the 22R-E engine, 5-speed, and rear wheel drive (nice). It's only got 150k and he wants $700 for it, because the paint is literally peeling off. Structually its solid and runs & drives great. My question is, does anyone know of the state of the aftermarket for thse cars? I've read a lot of good stuff online about the engine and it's potential, as well as the suspension. I have searched google, yahoo, etc. and there is a lot of talk about the aftermarket, but are parts still available for a car of this age? It's going to be a track car, used mostly for autocross and the occasional track day. Any help/advice/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Remeber not to get too overboard on power and that moderation wins when you know what you want and how to get it, but otherwise there's a lot of parts for these cars and a lot of competetive prices for them too.

yes, don't always listen to what you hear (wait.. that could mean what I'm saying right now.. nevermind that). Most people don't know what they're talking about. You could get the wrong product which could lead to problems, no performance gain, (example;stupid bodykits which are for show instead of producing downforce and directing air to importaint places, your car can still look good and produce performance)and making your car look like some ricer with some heavy huge wing slowing down his car. So do some research before you buy something, especially if your gonna break your bank for it.

and remember stay sticky! Get good rubber and suspension. They might beat you at the straight-a-ways, but you'll get them at the curves. The trick is how fast you can come out of a curve that matters on the track. (power is a given in the equation.)
Don't worry about body kits and huge wings for the momemnt (or ever for that matter.) If you want the real thing and how it works read the October 2006 issue on aero tips. Why imitate and extotic GT class import? When you can be one.

exactly what I'm trying to say, you can get more out of a car without having stupid bodykits and wings, actually, you should build a car with all performance and keep that crappy paintjob for the moment people will think twice about what they said about your car's look when you kill them at the track
