Ty I'll see if i can find some back issues. I've found a few different swaps online for this car but I realy like the SR20 so I m going to try to make it work. I know it will be tough fitting the 240sx tranny in the miata tunnel. However from what I hear the 1.8 rear end is a direct bolt on and good for 300-450 hp I am looking to get 275-375 at most for right now. Anyway TY again for the info

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=214088&highlight=sr20+swap ^^-quote "Well, yes its been done. No you don't "have" to cut the subframe. and Yes, unless you have a ton of experience with SR20's and you have a lot of the parts already, I personally wouldn't recommend the swap if you wanted to go turbo.
There are so many cheaper & easier options to get a turbo engine under the hood.
The search function will bring up more, but here's a quick synopsis:
My engine is an S15 SR20, normally aspirated with 200hp; it's claimed to have ~8km. We've done quite a few hybrid SR20 swaps into Datsun Roadsters and Datsun 510's. We've got a ton of informaiton and parts for the SR20's so that's why we chose that engine. Plus, I wanted a normally aspirated car with as close to 200hp and 2000lbs as possible We're using a JWT ecu on an S13 computer with the piggyback to run the VVT. Using modified S13 engine brackets onto Miata motor mounts. We're also using the full Nissan wiring harness with the consult plug.
Our project goal was to swap only the engine, trans, header, and wiring harness from the SR20 into the Miata, thereby leaving as much of the car Mzda as possible. In the end, to meet our oiling goals (5Qt), we'll need to notch into the subframe to make room for the sump.
disclaimer; if I wanted a turbo, i'd build the 1.6 for MUCH less than I'm into this swap. I can't see the point in using the SR20det when there is much more support and knowledge with the 1.6L and FE. This swap is just to do it better than it's been done before (in our perception).
Currently, the car is in pieces following a full respray. I'm slowly assembling with a large assortment of brand new or low mileage Miata parts. The oil pan adapter is 90% complete, awaiting fitment to the subframe for final adjustments. The subframe is in the process of being chopped up to allow a larger oil pan. Besides, I've got a 4mo old and a 3yr old, so time isn't exactly available these days.
You will need to solve the oil pan placement as an SR is front sump and it directly conflicts with the steering rack. My oil pan for the S15 engine is sort of an oil pan converter that puts the sump behind the steering rack.
You will need to find a solution to adapting the Powerplant frame (ppf). I'm trying to modify as little of the Mazda portion of the car as possible so I'm using a slightly shortened subframe with an adapter to go on to the Nissan 6spd.
You will need to solve the header and turbo location as it is dangerously close or in the way of the steering column. Mine is NA so I have no turbo to worry about.
You'll also need to use a larger radiator, but you'd already need that for any other hybrid swap. I'm planning on a Ron Davis, but Koyo makes a nice unit as well."

Yes.., we're having the same dream.., I have been searching more information to get a SR20DET swapped, but one of the mechanic told me that I have to get a proper engine mount or ask for somebody to fabricate one for you.., coz the Silvia is way different than the miata.., the engine bay has to be enlarge or something.., and the chassis has to custom made too..., and it's not cheap...!! The reason I wanna get SR20DET; it's because that engine is full of potential and reliable..

That would be sacrilegious. Why not just put a 13B Rotary engine instead. Mazda engine for a Mazda car.

just head to your local import shop and tell them what you want. if they cant do it most likely they can point you in the right direction. that guy talking about ten grand is just crazy. people here, in colorado, get very very reliable swaps for around five thousand. of coarse you can spend as much as you want in upgrades but that is all up to you and the shop. hope this helps

Look at SCC's April 2007 issue (Vol. 19, No.4) on page 28. Coleman explains the basics of putting in an SR20 into a Miata (and maybe why you should reconsider it).

Sacrilegious??? I think not, when it comes to perfomance and reliability as long as you stay japanese it's all in the family. I myself own a 1972 Datsun 510 that I'm getting ready to swap a KA24DE with 44MM Mikunis and I own a 1990 Miata that I am very interested in doing the SR20DET swap...c'mon you can't argue with 340HP to the wheels in your miata, if you do...ummmm I dunno I guess you may need your head checked or something.
