which issue was that article by Dave in?
I lost my copy, but I remember him describing to great detail how you could retrofit a WRX flat 4 into a Porsche 914. That would be an awesome project.
I remember after reading that article, thinking up some projects of my own.
1 - 1972 Datsun 510 with a first generation Silvia turbo motor and 5spd tranny. Done up in the old BRE racing colours with some 15" 4-spoke american racing mags.
2 - First generation miata with an RX8 triple rotor engine and 6 spd tranny
3 - Converting a 1990 Civic 3dr into a midd engine rocket, similar to the Clio Sport, or the Ford Fiesta SHOGUN. Put a Prelude type SH motor where the back seat is supposed to be, and have it driving the REAR wheels.

1: fun.  Would be nice to see a car like that.
2: Lots of work, but would be great
3: Even more work, potentially little to gain.  Still, a cool frankencar

another one I'm surprised I haven't seen too many of, is...
a 99 MR2 with the 180hp motor and 6spd tranny from a Celica GTS

They do have that car.. in Japan It's called the MR-S, and it's a hardtop version of the MR2 that we had.
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

If I had that money I'd write a check to the IRS for 20 percent, payoff everything me and my have and then save the rest and collect interest.

Lol smart thinkin.  Hey invest in realistate and become the next Donald Trump, but with out the comb over.

I would like to build a Fiero with a LS7...or MAYBE a AE86 with the celica altrac 3S-GTE engine and drivetrain and start beating the hell out of Evo's!

Today I saw a 328 CI.  It was trying to go fast.  I used to own a 330 CI.  That car could haul butt, but the door handles like to brake on me.

I dont think I'd go for the AWD thing on the protege
probably just instal a turbo from a GTX, or maybe a whole engine swap.
plus, with minimal work and expense, the 132hp turbo engine can be bumped up to 180, and still be pretty reliable.

Kudos on the V8 Fiero. The thing was made for it.

In all reality I would just finish the Talon and let that be that.

Turbo Sky maybe?

lots of people have done LS1 swaps into Fiero's
that car was cool
too bad it died
if only Pontiac seriously marketted it as a sports car

instead of the Prelude SH motor in the MR civic, someone should do something like the Renault Clio, and put a done up V6 from an Accord in it

or a similar think would be to build a new SHOGUN.
the original was a Ford Fiesta with a Yamaha V6 from the SHO taurus mid mounted, driving the rear wheels. NEWER version of the SHOGUN could be based on the Focus, with a V8 from the newer Taurus SHO mounted behind the front seats, driving the rear wheels. That thing would sound so cool!!! And be WAY better in the slaloms than some of those other V8 Focus' where guys have shoehorned big heavy 5.0L V8s under the hood.

or maybe with the 510, I might just put in a motor and tranny from a 240SX. Putting out about 170hp, the lightweight 510 would be like a lil rocket!
